By using a hosted technology
solution from Legal Software
Systems, Inc. (“LSS”), law firms no
longer need their own file servers.
Each hosted server at LSS can
support dozens of law firms
concurrently. For every law firm
using a hosted solution, one less
server computer needs to be
manufactured, packaged, delivered,
powered and eventually disposed of.
A typical “energy efficient” server
draws about 125W of power, on
average, throughout the day. Since
most servers are left running 24
hours a day, the average daily power
consumption would be around 3,000
watt hours (125W * 24 hours). The
average monthly power consumption
would be 90,000 watt hours.
If just ten small law firms shut
down their servers and switched to a
hosted solution, the power savings
alone would be 900,000 watt hours
(900kWh) each month. That’s enough
energy to power a small
single-family home!
Of course, LSS has servers that
require power, and the internet uses
resources as well. And this should
be factored into the equation. But
considering that LSS can easily
achieve 20:1 server consolidation
ratios (or better), this example is
easily on the conservative side.
And that’s just the savings
associated with powering a file
server. Energy and other resources
required for manufacturing,
packaging, delivery and eventual
disposal of computers can be saved
as well.
The point is, not only do hosted
solutions provide a great service to
customers, but they also contribute
to a greener environment.
